The operation, conducted on 31 December near Crimea, involved the use of Magura V5 assault marine drones equipped with rocket missiles. HUR stated, "According to updated data, following a successful operation by Ukrainian military intelligence in the Black Sea, near the temporarily occupied Crimea, the special unit 'Group 13' destroyed two Russian Mi-8 helicopters on 31 December."

"Preliminary reports indicate that the crews of these enemy helicopters were also eliminated. Another Russian helicopter was hit by a missile and managed to land, though it was later shot down," reported Ukrainian intelligence. Previously, HUR had released footage from a drone camera showing an attack on a Russian helicopter plunging into the Black Sea.

Magura V5 strike marine drones are produced in Ukraine. Since early 2024, the special unit "Group 13" has successfully destroyed several Russian assets, including the missile ship Ivanovets and the large landing ship Caesar Kunikov.
