Ukrainian drones spark chaos in Russia, halt Moscow flights
Last night, Ukrainian drones struck various targets within Russia. Videos emerged online from locations such as Ryazan, where a refinery was targeted. People gathered nearby were initially admiring the effects, but the strike led to an explosion that caused a panicked rush among the onlookers.
From Thursday into Friday, Ukrainians launched a massive attack on several targets in Russia. The Russian Ministry of Defence reported on Thursday evening about Ukrainian drone attacks in the Kursk, Ryazan, and Bryansk regions, as well as in Crimea and towards Moscow, according to Reuters.
Videos showcasing the effects of the nighttime attack swiftly appeared online. One of the targeted sites was the refinery in Ryazan. Additionally, three Moscow airports, Vnukovo, Domodedovo, and Zhukovsky, suspended all flights. In one of these videos, an explosion at the attacked refinery was recorded. People gathered around fled in panic after the explosion.
By morning, air traffic was halted in airports in Kazan, Nizhnekamsk, Penza, Samara, and Saratov. Residents also heard explosions of the cities of Engels, Saratov, and Bryansk.
An unsettled night in Ukraine as well
The Russians also conducted a night attack using drones. Their targets included neighbourhoods in Kyiv. The State Emergency Service of Ukraine reported that drone fragments hit a 10-storey residential building, causing a fire and damage on the 6th and 7th floors.
Rescuers reported that 150 residents were evacuated from the building. At least one person was killed in the attack, and the rescue operation at the site is still ongoing.
