Ukraine's Trembita missile: A cost-effective game changer
The Ukrainian armed forces are testing a modern missile named Trembita. This missile has a range of about 150 kilometres and carries a payload of 20 kilograms. A great advantage of the missile is its cost. Preliminary reports indicate that it costs $10,000.
The Ukrainian army is trying to repel the attack from Russia and tilt the balance of victory in their favour. To change the situation in Donbas, the Ukrainians must have modern weaponry capable of striking the enemy forces severely.
Currently, Ukraine is testing a missile named Trembita. It's a short-range missile designed in 2023. Although its range is only 150 kilometres, and the payload weight is just 20 kilograms, the biggest advantage of the missile is its production cost.
The British newspaper "The Telegraph" reports that the cost of producing one Trembita is just $10,000. Why such a low cost? The design uses a jet engine and a simple GPS-guided fuselage.
Ukrainian designers are simultaneously working on another version of the missile. This one is intended to reach Moscow. The production cost will certainly be higher than $10,000, but lower than the price of modern American equipment. For comparison, "The Telegraph" reports that the American missile system MGM-140 ATACMS costs over $1 million.
Ukraine wants mass-produced weapons. This is a response to opinions from the USA
The authorities in Kyiv want to respond to the dwindling aid from the West. Ukraine fears that Donald Trump will not supply the army with equipment, which would make it impossible to fight against the Russians. Kyiv wants to become independent from Western supplies, and massive missile production and numerous attacks on Russia may be the only way to combat Putin's regime.
Although the project significantly deviates in capabilities from the best missiles in the world, it has the advantage of potential mass production. Such a solution could certainly severely impact Russia.
