Ukraine prepares ground for Trump-Zelensky summit
The Ukrainian Foreign Minister, Andriy Sibiga, announced preparations are underway to organise a meeting between President-elect Donald Trump and President Volodymyr Zelensky.
Sibiga recalled that Zelensky had already spoken with Trump immediately after he won the US presidential election.
- They discussed possible future interactions at the leaders' level. As I have already mentioned, Volodymyr Zelensky's team and Donald Trump's team have begun preparations to organise the meeting - said the head of Ukraine's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Trump has already spoken with Zelensky
As reported by the BBC, among others, Trump conversed with Zelensky for approximately thirty minutes. The discussion also included billionaire Elon Musk, who actively supported Trump during the presidential campaign.
- A source in Ukraine's presidential office told the BBC that the "good lengthy conversation" between Zelensky and Trump lasted "about half an hour" - reports BBC. - It was not really a conversation to talk about very substantial things, but overall it was very warm and pleasant - added the source.
Axios reported on Friday that Zelensky "felt the fact that the call happened so soon after Trump was declared the winner was a positive sign." Three sources familiar with the conversation told Axios that Zelensky thought the conversation went well and did not increase his anxiety regarding Trump’s victory.
One source stated that it "didn't leave Zelensky with a feeling of despair."
