Ukraine imposes sanctions on Georgia over Russian alliance
The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, has announced sanctions against Georgia due to its increasing closeness with Russia. Kyiv is collaborating with its partners on a legal response.
The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, shared on Telegram that Ukraine is preparing sanctions against Georgia because of its strengthening ties with Russia. Zelensky emphasised that "it's simply disgraceful" what the Georgian government is currently doing to its own people.
- When Moscow praises this government in Georgia, it becomes clear whom they are now supporting in Tbilisi and whom they are repressing during these protests. Certainly not Georgia, - stated the President of Ukraine.
Zelensky noted that Ukraine is collaborating with European and other partners on specific legal actions.
In Tbilisi and other cities in Georgia, protests against the policies of the ruling Georgian Dream party have been ongoing since 28 November. Protesters oppose the decision to suspend talks on joining the EU until 2028.
