Ukraine foils Russian plot using minor to target military base
The Security Service of Ukraine foiled a terrorist attack planned by Russian agents involving a minor. It was explained that the boy was to blow himself up at a military unit as a gesture of protest.
The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) detained a group of Russian agents who planned a terrorist attack involving a minor in the Kyiv region, reports Ukrainian Pravda.
According to investigators, in December 2024, the bomber was intended to place an explosive device at the entrance to one of the Ukrainian Defence Forces' units.
The boy was unaware he would die
The device was meant to explode right after the agent entered the building. He testified that the explosion was supposed to happen later, after he had left the area of the unit. It was emphasised that the young man presented this scenario because he was not aware he would die.
Upon arriving at the location, the boy stayed in a hotel near the planned attack site. He acted according to instructions received via the Telegram messenger from a representative in Russia. He picked up a backpack with the device and a Ukrainian uniform, changed, and placed the device in the designated location.
"The SBU counterintelligence prevented a bloody terrorist attack that Russian special services planned to carry out in the Kyiv region. A special operation led to the detention of four members of the Russian agent network, who were preparing to detonate (by one of them) explosive devices at the entrance to the building where an armed forces unit is stationed," the SBU reported.
SBU counterintelligence preemptively uncovered the Russians' plans and prevented the terrorist attack. As a result, they detained the minor terrorist and three other agents involved in these actions, the Ukrainian service reported.
Prevention of the attack
Thanks to the actions of the Ukrainian services, the attack was thwarted. During searches, phones with evidence of cooperation with Russia and about 1.5 kilograms of explosive material were found with those detained.
The SBU charged the detainees, who remain in custody without the possibility of bail. They face life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
