The US Congress has yet to approve military aid for Ukraine. "If we don't do this, the Russians will be in Kyiv. Unfortunately, a few of my colleagues would like to see the Russians to win," said Republican Don Bacon.

Don Bacon discussed the situation in Ukraine on Thursday on C-SPAN. The Republican and member of the United States House of Representatives accused some of his Republican colleagues of spreading Russian propaganda and wanting to see Russia "win" in its invasion of Ukraine.

The Republican congressman described the situation in Ukraine as tragic, convinced that it needed support in the form of ammunition to continue fighting the Russian aggressor.

"Now for Ukraine, they have no more artillery. If we do not do this, the Russians will be in Kyiv. Unfortunately, a few of my colleagues would like to see the Russians win. I don’t know why that is the case. I think it’s a terrible thing," said Bacon. However, the politician did not disclose which party colleagues would like Russia to win.

Key legislation for Ukraine

Ukraine continuously asks its Western allies for more ammunition and anti-aircraft defence systems, while Russian forces continue to shell its cities and energy infrastructure every day.

Republican members of the House of Representatives released on Wednesday a draft of three laws supporting Ukraine, Israel, and the Indo-Pacific. The drafts propose allocating nearly £49 billion for aid to Ukraine. US President Joe Biden supported the draft package on Wednesday. He appealed to both chambers of Congress to expedite the proceedings of these draft laws and announced that he would sign them immediately. The voting is to take place on Saturday.
