Trump's 'Beast': Unveiling the fortress on wheels

Technical specification and protection

The presidential limousine, known as the "Beast," is a symbol of American security on wheels. Although, at first glance, it resembles a traditional Cadillac, its design is based on technology used in lorries. It is a rolling fortress capable of withstanding various types of attacks.

The construction of the "Beast" is based on the frame of a light lorry—the Chevrolet Kodiak C4500—which explains its hefty weight of between 7 and 9 UK tons. The armour is made from aluminium, ceramics, and steel, providing the highest level of protection alongside reinforced doors and windows, which are up to 13 centimetres thick. It's also worth mentioning the special tyres, which allow for continued driving even after being punctured.

Equipment for every occasion

The limousine is equipped with advanced technologies for both protection and first aid. The interior of the "Beast" is airtight, and the vehicle is fitted with systems to defend against gas attacks and a first aid kit, including a refrigerator containing blood compatible with the President of the United States' blood type. Devices such as a gas dispenser and night vision goggles provide additional protection against potential threats.

The vehicle also features handles that emit electric shocks and a smoke grenade launcher, emphasising its role as a mobile fortress. These systems are not only impressive but also command respect, highlighting the unique character of the presidential limousine.

Huge engine with surprisingly low power

The "Beast" is powered by a 6.6-litre V8 Duramax Diesel engine generating about 300 horsepower. This is relatively modest. However, the maximum torque is more impressive, at 700 Nm. Nevertheless, the presidential limousine is not a speedster. Even though the full technical details are classified, it is estimated that the maximum speed is only 100 km/h, and fuel consumption exceeds 30 litres of diesel per 100 km.

Over the years, presidential limousines have evolved. From luxurious, albeit standard cars, they have gradually transformed into rolling fortresses. The current "Beast" is essentially indestructible. The present generation dates back to 2018 and was ordered by the Trump administration then. The entire project cost about £13 million, reflecting the importance of this investment in ensuring the protection of the US leader.

Work has already begun on a new generation, replacing the current model and maintaining the highest standards of safety and modernity. There is increasing speculation that the future "Beast" will be emission-free, but is this certain? Time will tell.

Trump only as a passenger

One thing is certain: Donald Trump will never take the wheel of the current or future "Beast." The reason is a ban, or rather a recommendation, stipulating that the President of the United States cannot drive on public roads. Interestingly, this also applies once they have left office.
