Trump to name Marco Rubio as first Latino Secretary of State
Donald Trump is expected to appoint Marco Rubio as the new Secretary of State for the USA. The head of diplomacy's main responsibilities will focus on rebuilding relations with Latin America and addressing the situation with China. Concerns regarding Ukraine will become a secondary priority.
Although the decision has not been officially made, American media confidently report that Donald Trump will entrust Marco Rubio with leading diplomacy. This would be an unprecedented decision, and Rubio would become the first Latino in history to hold the position of Secretary of State.
Trump's main asset is the 54-year-old senator of Cuban descent's strong stance against China. Rubio is one of the few American politicians banned from entering the People's Republic of China.
Ukraine ceases to be the main topic
Unfortunately, this is yet more bad news for Ukraine. The war with Russia will cease to be the most important challenge for American diplomacy. Trump wants to resolve this conflict to focus on what he considers more pressing issues – confrontation with Beijing and halting migration from South America.
In recent days, Rubio has called for a resolution to the conflict. Although he did not advocate for a Ukrainian victory, he acknowledged that Kyiv should enter negotiations from a position of strength, and Ukrainians must feel good about the agreement reached.
According to the senator, the funds flowing from the USA are causing paralysis at the front, costing thousands of lives. Ukraine's situation largely depends on who will become the new Secretary of Defence for the USA.
Trump announced that this position will be held by Pete Hegseth, a former veteran of the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, known as a presenter from Fox News programmes. This nomination surprised even some politicians from the Republican Party, who admit that they know little about the candidate for the head of the Pentagon.
