Trump targets EU with 25% tariffs, igniting trade tensions
Donald Trump announced plans to impose 25% tariffs on imported goods from the European Union, including cars. According to lawyer Krzysztof Wojczal, the EU lacks effective tools to respond to Trump. "It's in Donald Trump's interest to create chaos and uncertainty among his partners, with whom he plans to negotiate," the analyst believes.
"We have made the decision, we will announce it soon, and it will be, generally speaking, 25%, and it will apply to cars and everything else," Trump said when asked if he would impose tariffs on goods from the EU.
Trump emphasised that the decision to impose tariffs is a response to the actions of the European Union.
"Let's be honest, the European Union was created to cheat the United States. That's its purpose, and they have done a good job. But now I am the president," added the President of the USA.
Trump plays the EU. "He has all the cards"
Krzysztof Wojczal noted on Polsat News that the EU's trade deficit with the USA works against it.
"The Americans are the biggest market for the European Union; they let us earn, so if they impose tariffs on us, there isn't much we can do in response," he emphasised.
He reminded that Europe is also dependent on the USA for security. "Donald Trump has all the cards in his hands, and knowing this, he tries to dictate terms to all his partners and allies. It's a very brutal but also a purely business-oriented approach," the expert assessed.
According to him, the President of the USA acts according to a well-thought-out strategy. "It's in Donald Trump's interest to create chaos and uncertainty among his partners, with whom he plans to negotiate," Wojczal pointed out.
