Trump orders airstrikes on ISIS planner in Somalia raid
"This morning, I ordered precise military airstrikes on a senior ISIS attack planner and other terrorists he recruited and led in Somalia," Donald Trump announced on social media. He added that the strikes "killed many terrorists without causing harm to civilians."
The President of the USA shared information on social media about the attacks that the American military conducted in Somalia. The target was a "senior ISIS attack planner."
"These killers, whom we found hiding in caves, posed a threat to the United States and our allies. The attacks destroyed the caves where they lived and killed many terrorists without causing harm to civilians," assured Donald Trump.
"Our military has been targeting this ISIS attack planner for years, but Biden and his pals didn't act fast enough to get the job done. I did!" he added.
At the end of the post, Trump included a direct message "for ISIS and anyone else who would attack Americans." He wrote briefly: "We will find you and we will kill you."
The operation conducted in northern Somalia, where Puntland forces have been leading an offensive against the Islamic State since the end of December, took place in the Golis hills, where terrorists are reportedly stationed. At the same time, AFP noted that IS is not a dominant force in Somalia, although the UN recently warned about the group's strengthening in the region.
In a statement published on the Somali government's website, it was explained that Saturday's operation was coordinated with the government in Mogadishu. President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud expressed gratitude to the USA, emphasising that terrorists in Somalia will find no peace.
The new head of the Pentagon, Pete Hegseth, also addressed the matter, stating that according to preliminary findings, many IS agents were eliminated. He added that this operation significantly limits IS's ability to plan and prepare attacks on United States citizens.
