Trump faces divided opinions amid political challenges
Forty-nine per cent of Americans have a negative opinion of Donald Trump, while 44 per cent have a positive opinion, according to the NPR/PBS News/Marist poll.
The majority of respondents (59 per cent) believe that the attack on the Capitol on 6 January 2021 was aimed at overturning the election results, although 61 per cent of Republicans see it as a patriotic protest. The plan to pardon those convicted for this attack met with disapproval from 62 per cent of those surveyed.
Controversies around immigration and the economy
The issue of immigration divides Americans. Forty-nine per cent support Donald Trump's planned mass deportations, while an equal number oppose them. Among Republicans, 80 per cent agree with this intention, whereas 60 per cent of Democrats are against it. In the field of the economy, 59 per cent of respondents do not view the current economic situation positively. Trump promotes tariffs on imported goods, but 48 per cent consider this idea harmful.
Elon Musk, nominated as the head of the department for eliminating waste, is the most controversial candidate for key positions in Trump's cabinet. Thirty-seven per cent of respondents support his candidacy, while 46 per cent express disapproval.
Robert F. Kennedy Jr. as head of the health department gained 40 per cent support, while Marco Rubio as secretary of state obtained only 25 per cent.
The survey results indicate that Trump, despite his "unprecedented and powerful mandate," faces serious political and economic challenges.
