On 15 July, during the Republican Party conference in Milwaukee, Donald Trump was officially nominated as the candidate for the presidential election. The businessman and former president announced that his candidate for vice president is 39-year-old J.D. Vance. The author of the bestselling book "Hillbilly Elegy" and the Republican senator from Ohio appeared at the rally with his wife, Usha. Who is the politician's beloved?
Who is J.D. Vance's wife, Usha Vance?
Usha Vance was born in 1986, the daughter of Indian immigrants. She grew up in the suburbs of San Diego and later graduated with degrees in law and history from Yale University. From her LinkedIn profile, one can also learn that she received the prestigious Gates Scholarship Programme at the University of Cambridge, where she earned a master’s degree in early modern history.
After graduating, Usha Vance worked as a clerk for two Supreme Court judges: Brett Kavanaugh, a Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit judge, and Chief Justice John Roberts.
Since 2015, Usha Vance has been employed at Munger, Tolles & Olson law firm. According to archive data, she dealt with complex civil litigation and appeals, including cases involving higher education, local government, entertainment, technology, and semiconductors. On Monday, the firm announced that Vance had resigned from her job.
"Usha has been an excellent lawyer and colleague, and we thank her for her years of work and wish her the best in her future career," said the statement quoted by the media.
J.D. Vance speaks about his wife
J.D. Vance and Usha met in law school in 2013, where they both joined a discussion group on the "social decline of white America." A year later, they got married. They also have three children – two sons, Ewan and Vivek, and a daughter, Mirabel.
Usha Vance did not want to be in the political spotlight, but her husband repeatedly stated that she had a huge impact on his career development. In his book "Hillbilly Elegy," J.D. Vance calls his wife a "spiritual guide" at Yale.
- Usha definitely brings me back to Earth a little bit. And if I maybe get a little bit too cocky or a little too proud I just remind myself that she is way more accomplished than I am, - he said on The Megyn Kelly Show podcast in 2020.
