Trump appoints ex‑fast food CEO as EU ambassador
The US President, Donald Trump, announced the nomination of Andrew Puzder, a former fast-food chain executive, as the new US ambassador to the European Union. Trump also nominated Sean Curran, the Secret Service agent responsible for his protection, as the new head of the service.
Previously, Puzder was the head of CKE Restaurants, which operates the regional fast-food chains Hardee's and Carl's Jr.
Trump makes further decisions
"During his 17 year tenure as CEO, Andy led the company out of serious financial difficulty, allowing it to survive, become financially secure, and grow. Andy will do an excellent job representing our Nation’s interests in this important region. ," wrote Donald Trump on his social media platform, Truth Social.
In 2017, Trump had already nominated Puzder for the position of Secretary of Labor, but Puzder was forced to withdraw his candidacy due to allegations of employing illegal immigrants, mistreating employees, and domestic violence. If confirmed this time, Puzder will replace Mark Gitenstein, a lawyer appointed by President Biden, in Brussels.
On Wednesday, Trump also announced the nomination of Sean Curran as head of the Secret Service. Curran led the USSS team protecting Trump for four years and was with him during an assassination attempt in Butler, Pennsylvania.
The new US President has also chosen conservative columnist and activist Brent Bozell to head the Global Media Agency, overseeing US public media, including Radio Free Europe and Voice of America. Bozell is a former critic of Trump known for criticising liberal media. His son was among more than a thousand people pardoned by Trump, having previously been convicted for participating in the storming of the Capitol on 6 January 2021.
