Trump administration ends pursuit of Kremlin-linked oligarchs
The new US Attorney General, Pam Bondi, has announced the conclusion of the Task Force KleptoCapture group, which was established to pursue oligarchs linked to the Kremlin following Russia's invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
According to reports from The Guardian, the Trump administration has decided to disband the Task Force KleptoCapture group. The group was created after Russia invaded Ukraine in 2022. Its aim was to enforce sanctions and target oligarchs close to the Kremlin. Attorney General Pam Bondi announced the decision.
In a memorandum, Bondi noted that the resources previously dedicated to pursuing oligarchs will be redirected towards combating drug cartels and international gangs.
This change is part of the broader Trump administration strategy, which also focuses on fighting illegal immigration and fentanyl trafficking.
Yachts and assets of oligarchs
The Task Force KleptoCapture group, created during Joe Biden's administration, was designed to freeze the assets of Russian oligarchs and enforce sanctions.
As part of its activities, individuals such as Oleg Deripaska and Konstantin Malofeev were accused of sanction violations, and yachts belonging to Suleiman Kerimov and Viktor Vekselberg were confiscated.
