The storms in the Balkans are accompanied by heavy rainfall and strong winds. They have already caused significant damage in Croatia, Serbia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina. The severe storm reached Montenegro early Tuesday morning, 2 July, and immediately led to a tragedy.
Tragedy in Montenegro
According to local media, fallen trees have damaged dozens, if not hundreds, of cars. There is no electricity in some parts of the country, and many streets in Podgorica are flooded. The country's authorities have urged drivers to stay at home.
Montenegrin Minister of Transport and Maritime Affairs, Filip Radulović, announced financial assistance from the government for those whose properties were destroyed.
The losses in the port city of Bar are enormous. The wind destroyed several vessels, loading bridges and cranes.
Fatalities during the storm
Unfortunately, two people died during the weather breakdown in Montenegro. A wind-toppled crane crushed one they were working on, and the other died after being struck by lightning, according to Montenegrin police.
