Dramatic events unfolded in the Mendhar Poonch district in India. According to the "Daily Mail," the 26-year-old mother, living in the village of Mankote, slit the throats of her newborn twin daughters after her husband denied being the father of the children.
Local police confirmed that the mother has been charged with the murder of her own children. The woman admitted to the crime.
It's the mother who killed her twin baby daughters. She has confessed to the crime – said NDTV Yogul Manhas, senior police inspector in Poonch.
She committed the crime out of fear
According to NDTV, the woman's husband works in Saudi Arabia. Three months ago, he returned home after a long absence. His wife was due to give birth to twins shortly after the man's return, which prompted him to report the matter to the police. He informed them that the children were "from an illegitimate relationship."
Fearing trouble, the woman took her newborns to a nearby field and killed them – reported the police.
The bodies of the children were transported to the district hospital in Mendhar for an autopsy.
Initially, the villagers suspected that the husband was involved in the gruesome crime, so the police detained him for questioning.
A detailed investigation into the matter has been launched.
In India, especially in rural areas, the situation for women is challenging. Problems of everyday life are poverty and hunger. Women are discriminated against (discrimination starts with young girls, as the birth of a son is considered a true blessing, while the birth of a daughter is seen as a burden, mainly financial), and they are forced into gruelling labour.
Women in India, particularly from lower castes, often fall victim to rape. Police statistics show that in 2022 over 31,500 rapes were registered in India (an average of 86 cases per day).
