The incident occurred on Friday, 19th July, in the western part of São Paulo, Brazil. The 17-year-old snatched a mobile phone from a 71-year-old man and, while fleeing, ran under a moving bus. Despite immediate assistance and being taken to the hospital, he succumbed to extensive injuries.

A video that surfaced online shows an elderly man walking on the pavement and talking on the phone. Suddenly, a young man rushes up to him and snatches the phone from his hand. He then starts to dash and, due to his carelessness, runs directly under a moving city bus.

The speeding vehicle hits him with significant force, and then the 17-year-old is dragged under the chassis. The whole incident lasted just a few seconds.

The Public Security Secretariat informed the Brazilian news service Correio in a statement that the police were called in response to the incident of the hit-and-run and theft on Domingos Rodrigues Street.

In many cities in Latin America, there are areas where street thieves are especially active. Therefore, when travelling to these regions, one must be aware of their safety.

Thieves can be very cunning and resort to various methods of theft. They often form gangs, creating a severe threat. In Brazil, this has been a problem for years, one that the authorities do not always manage well.
