The accident occurred around 11 AM Greenwich Time on Bolszaja Morskaja Street in the heart of St. Petersburg. Surveillance footage captured the bus driver losing control before reaching the bridge. The bus swerved onto the footpath, attempted to rejoin the road by smashing through barriers, turned onto the bridge, and collided with an oncoming passenger car.

Consequently, the bus, carrying 20 passengers, veered off the bridge and sank underwater.

Ten individuals managed to escape the bus on their own. They awaited rescuers on the bus's roof.

Four people did not survive the accident

Rescuers extricated another ten people from the bus. Nine of them, including the bus driver, were rushed to the hospital in critical condition.

One victim, despite attempts at resuscitation, was pronounced dead at the accident scene. Three others succumbed to their injuries after being hospitalised.

Online photos and videos vividly depict the frantic efforts of rescuers to save the lives of the bus passengers.

The prosecutor's office has investigated the accident, focusing on the bus driver as the sole suspect.
