"The Office" is a mockumentary about the daily lives of office employees in a small town. The renowned comedian Ricky Gervais created the original version in the United Kingdom.
The American version of "The Office" premiered in 2005 and ran for nine seasons, amassing over 100 nominations for the industry's most prestigious awards. It launched actors such as Steve Carell ("Crazy, Stupid, Love", "Evan Almighty"), John Krasinski ("Jack Ryan", "A Quiet Place"), Ed Helms (the "Hangover" series), and Mindy Kaling ("The Mindy Project") into global fame. The finale aired in 2013; since then, the show has entertained audiences across various streaming platforms.
When the pandemic struck in 2020, leading to lockdowns worldwide, people found solace in this beloved series from a few years back. It emerged that "The Office" was watched for tens of millions of hours within just a year! No surprise there, as the humour, acting, and screenplay have remained exceptional, although some jokes from nearly 20 years ago might not be as well-received today.
Will "The Office" see a continuation? And who will star in it?
As early as September last year, Puck News leaked that Greg Daniels, the mastermind behind the original, was associated with the then-rumoured continuation project.
In an interview with The Wrap a few months later, he opined that any new series should not be a reboot, implying that it shouldn't retell the same story with just a few tweaks and different actors. It's clear now that his thoughts weren't idle speculation.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, renowned for its accurate insights, production on the continuation of "The Office" is actively underway with two actors already cast. They are Sabrina Impacciatore from HBO's "White Lotus" and Domhnall Gleeson, who has notable roles in "About Time," the "Harry Potter" series, and "Star Wars."
Details on the project are still scarce. What is known is that the creators of the American "The Office", Greg Daniels and Michael Koman, are at the helm. It's confirmed that this will not be a 10th-season continuation nor explore the future of the original characters. Instead, this will be a brand-new title set in the beloved universe that has captivated millions of viewers worldwide.
