The mystery of airplane window triangles unveiled
The most observant travellers might have noticed tiny black triangles above some airplane windows. What do they mean? We clear up any doubts.
When travelling by plane, it's worth taking a close look around the cabin. You might notice something interesting. Many passengers pay attention to small holes in airplane windows, which play an important role.
As it turns out, windows in airplanes are designed to mitigate pressure differences between the interior of the aircraft and the outside environment. Small holes help to regulate interior pressure, making the journey more comfortable for passengers. Additionally, the holes allow moisture to escape from the cabin, preventing the windows from fogging up.
Mysterious triangles in the windows
Small black triangles above some windows on both sides of the plane are something passengers notice less frequently. You have to be observant to spot them. We managed to notice them on a Swiss Air airplane. Now we explain the secret of the black triangles.
Expert reveals
In short, the triangular marks indicate the best vantage points for viewing the airplane's wings.
"In some types of commercial airplanes, there are such triangles, usually two, sometimes four. One on each side at the level of the leading and trailing edge of the wings. They indicate the two points where the crew has the best view of the wings during visual inspection. This means they do not have to search long for the right window in the cabin," explained an expert from Lufthansa in an interview with the German newspaper "Bild."
Passengers can sit just like at any other seat in rows where the triangles are located. They can be sure their view of the airplane wings is the best, making any recordings and photos of the views exceptional.
