The OSINTtechnical channel on the "X" platform posted a video showing a T-90M tank engulfed in flames. Despite the visible fire, the crew continued driving, retreating from the battlefield. The decision might have been due to fear of further attacks by Ukrainian drones.
Although the fire on the speeding tank is impressive, the vehicle is unlikely to suffer significant damage. The flames were not directly near the tank's crucial components, such as the engine compartment.
It appears that a drone with an incendiary charge might have attacked the tank. We have received information from the front that drones are capable of carrying charges resembling popular Molotov cocktails, which can cause fires in enemy armoured vehicles.
T-90M tank. What is known about it?
The T-90M tanks were introduced to the Russian army in 2020. They are Russia's latest frontline vehicle. The M version is characterised by about 15-20 percent better accuracy compared to the T-90 tanks' guns. It can fire both standard shells and 9M119 Reflex anti-tank missiles.
It also received reinforced armour with Relikt reactive modules designed to protect against APFSDS anti-tank shells. These modules are located at the front and on each side of the turret. The T-90M is also equipped with a remotely controlled weapon station. The machine is powered by a V-92S2 diesel engine with 1000 hp. The tank reaches a top speed of 60 km/h (37 mph).
