Szczęsny's uncertain future: Will he stay with Barcelona?
In the autumn of 2024, Wojciech Szczęsny joined FC Barcelona. The Polish player has yet to debut for the Catalan team, but this seems to occur soon. Spanish journalists have reported what might happen to the 34-year-old after the season ends.
So far, Wojciech Szczęsny has only observed from the bench as his teammates deliver outstanding performances. Hansi Flick, the coach of the Catalan team, stated that he has no intention of changing the goalkeeper at present, and the first-choice goalkeeper will remain the Spaniard, Inaki Pena.
The Pole's situation seemed even more challenging after El Clasico, in which FC Barcelona defeated Real Madrid away 4-0. Szczęsny's direct rival for the goalkeeper position had an excellent match. Despite this, Spanish media agree that the 34-year-old will soon debut in his new colours.
This is expected to happen on Wednesday, 6 November, when the Catalans travel to Belgrade to play against Crvena Zvezda in the Champions League. Journalists report that this is when the Pole will stand between the posts for the Pride of Catalonia, though, at the moment, these are only reports.
Media: It's known whether Wojciech Szczęsny will stay in Barcelona
Wojciech Szczęsny joined the Blaugrana after its first-choice goalkeeper, Marc Andre ter Stegen, suffered a severe injury that ruled him out for the rest of the season. The Pole signed a contract valid until 30 June 2025, precisely the last day of the current campaign.
According to Relevo, there is no indication that the Pole's contract will be extended. Journalists report that "Szczena" is not in the club's plans, and after the contract expires, he will leave the team. One of the world's most renowned sports journalists, Fabrizio Romano, also shared this information.
