Rebels from the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) group entered the Al-Hamdaniya and New Aleppo districts. They had previously announced this on social media, and the information is now confirmed by the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

According to AFP, citing the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, before entering the city, they detonated two explosive devices and clashed with government forces.

Rebels armed with heavy weapons. The situation in the city is "tense"

A rebel commander posted a recorded message on social media, in which he called on the residents of Aleppo to cooperate with the advancing forces. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights highlights that the situation in the city is tense.

The Syrian army reported that it is facing a "major attack" carried out by "terrorist organisations" armed with heavy weapons and drones.

This is the first time rebels have entered Aleppo — the second-largest city in the country — since government forces retook the city in 2016.
