The latest installment of the Eurovision Song Contest was as unpredictable as ever. Despite predictions and bookmakers favoring Croatia and their act Baby Lasagna, it was Switzerland's Nemo who ultimately clinched the win. Unfortunately, the Saturday concert went on without Poland’s participation.

The aftermath of Eurovision 2024: A divided internet

This year's competition was anticipated to be a close battle from the start. Alongside Croatia and Switzerland, representatives from Ukraine, Ireland, and Israel were also seen as strong contenders for the win. The contest was fiercely competitive until the very end, with none of the top five countries receiving less than 220 points from the public vote, indicating a fairly even match.

Given the tight competition, the announcement of the winning country sparked intense reactions among fans. Criticisms included claims that Croatia had been "robbed of victory" and that Baby Lasagna deserved a place on the podium. Some argue that Baby Lasagna is the true winner, having garnered the most public votes.

"Baby Lasagna is the real winner. The public has spoken, and Nemo is surely aware", "It's unfortunate that Croatia was robbed of their victory. 'Rim Tim Tagi Dim' appealed to me more than 'The Code'", "Such dynamism, such a performance, and yet only second place?", "The public has delivered its verdict. Their favorite was clear. It's obvious who truly won", "Croatia outperformed. It's a shame the jury couldn’t see that" - some comments read.

To provide a balanced view, there are also many who believe both countries were equally deserving of the win.

"Switzerland had 'that special something'. That's the magic of Eurovision", "Does it really matter who won? The vote gap was minimal. It was a closely matched year", "Both Switzerland and Croatia were remarkable. Ultimately, only one could win", "This year’s top 5 were all strong contenders. For me, it doesn’t matter if it was Switzerland or Croatia, both were outstanding" - others have written.
