Sweden finalises record £551m military aid package for Ukraine, reports reveal

Sweden has prepared Ukraine's most extensive aid package to date, according to "The Kyiv Independent", citing Swedish newspaper "Dagens Nyheter". Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson and Defence Minister Pal Jonson will announce the upcoming fifteenth package at a press conference on Tuesday.

The military aid package is projected to be worth about £551 million. Reports suggest the tranche will include equipment from the reserves of the Swedish Armed Forces. Additional funds will also be allocated for replacing weapons previously sent to Ukraine.

Since the war in Ukraine began, Swedish defence support for Kyiv amounted to approximately £1.73 billion. According to a Ukrainian portal, Stockholm has transferred items, including Archer self-propelled artillery systems, CV90 infantry fighting vehicles, and Swedish versions of Leopard 2 tanks: the Strv 122.

Kyiv has shown interest in the Saab JAS 39 Gripen fighters produced in Sweden. Sweden's Defence Minister, Pal Jonson, told "The Kyiv Independent" last week that Stockholm is open to delivering modern jet fighters to Ukraine once Sweden joins NATO.
