Steven Tyler's tumultuous journey: from rehab to health struggles and Aerosmith's delayed tour
Around a year and a half ago, Steven Tyler publicly confessed that, despite a decade of sobriety, he had relapsed back into addiction. Promptly seeking help, he announced that he was entering rehab. As a member of Aerosmith since the 70s, he acknowledged that the band was still performing well, despite the passing years. Tyler expressed a determination not to jeopardise this by falling back into addiction.

Aerosmith shared news of their bandmate's situation on social media. In a brief statement, they said: "As many of you probably already know, our respected brother Steven has been addressing his sobriety for many years. After undergoing foot surgery, he was preparing for stage performances. During his recovery, he had to deal with pain, which led to the resurfacing of his addiction...".
The band highlighted that rehab therapy was Tyler's choice, as he aimed to focus on his wellbeing. "We are heartbroken to cause distress to so many of you, especially our loyal fans who often make long journeys to experience our shows," the Aerosmith band members added.
Nonetheless, Tyler's problems didn't end there. In the spring of the previous year, he was accused of sexual abuse. The woman who made the allegation claimed that she had an illegal relationship with the Aerosmith singer when she was 16 and he was 25. The musician promptly responded to the accusation, stating that the alleged incidents are time-barred, due to either full or partial consent on her part, and that, as her past guardian, he had at least qualified immunity. In the document, it was argued that "Tyler’s actions were justified, in good faith, non-discriminatory and were not retaliatory". Despite this, he confirmed that he will continue to fight for his good name.
Steven Tyler's health problems - what's happening?
In 2023, Aerosmith planned another tour, this one being a farewell concert tour. However, a few concerts in, a health problem emerged. In September, the band postponed several shows, and Tyler released a statement explaining that he had sustained grave vocal cord injuries, which led to haemorrhaging. In light of this, the singer's doctor strictly forbade him from performing for the following thirty days. On 29th September, a message was posted on the band’s social media explaining that Steven's issues are graver than the doctor initially anticipated.
Ultimately, the tour was put off to 2024. Steven Tyler himself recently expressed his thoughts on the situation. Tyler, who annually presides over the "Jam For Janie" event during Grammy's week, revealed during it that he is doing much better; however, he is still recovering. His daughter, Mia, is reportedly less optimistic, expressing concerns that her father's voice remains weak and seems to be fading. This implies that Aerosmith's return to the stage could be further delayed...
