Stellantis pauses SUV production amid shrinking US demand
The break will last at least a week. The decision is a response to the weakening demand in the American market.
Another car factory has decided to temporarily halt production. This concerns the Detroit Assembly Complex, owned by the Stellantis group, which manufactures Jeep and Dodge models.
The factory management announced the decision on Monday, 28th October, effective immediately. A statement was released to provide further insights into the situation.
Stellantis is adjusting its production levels to better match sales and making specific changes to its operations. According to the statement, the company will continue to monitor the situation and evaluate whether additional steps are required.
The Detroit Assembly Complex—Jefferson produces large SUVs from the Stellantis group, such as the Jeep Grand Cherokee and Dodge Durango. Until recently, the factory employed approximately 5,000 people. In September, 200 were made redundant, and further reductions are not ruled out.
