The information was provided in response to questions about Russian losses in the war in Ukraine, posed by MP John Healey, the shadow defence secretary of the Labour Party.
"We estimate that about 450,000 Russian military personnel have been killed or wounded, and tens of thousands more have deserted since the conflict started. The number of casualties among Russian private military contractors remains uncertain," Docherty responded.
"We also estimate that since the conflict began, Ukraine has destroyed, damaged, or captured over 10,000 Russian armored vehicles, including almost 3,000 main battle tanks, 109 aircraft, 136 helicopters, 346 unmanned aerial vehicles, 23 warships of all classes, and over 1,500 artillery systems of various types," added Docherty.
The British military service UK Defence Journal quoted the correspondence between Healey and Docherty.
Latest estimates by BBC and Mediazona
According to research by the independent Russian service Mediazona and the Russian section of the BBC, at least 51,679 soldiers from Putin's forces have already died in Ukraine. These figures are derived from publicly available sources like social media posts from family members, local media reports, and official announcements from regional governments.
Moreover, based on the estimated excess mortality among men identified from the probate registry database, Mediazona and the BBC have estimated that the total number of Russian military personnel killed might be around 85,000.
