Sophia Bush opens up: From heartbreak to coming out as queer
28 April 2024 12:57
Sophia Bush, beloved across several generations of "One Tree Hill" fans, has recently chosen to share insights into her life. The actress is no longer with her husband. Instead, she now has a partner.
Do you remember productions like "John Tucker Must Die", "The Hitcher", or "Van Wilder"? Sophia Bush was one of the more popular stars in the early 2000s. The most important role in her career became the TV series "One Tree Hill", which was watched by teenagers worldwide. In recent years, Sophia hasn't had as good a run as before. When we look at her film and TV series resume, we find productions like the TV series "Good Sam" or the movie "False Positive".
In connection with the latter-mentioned production, Sophia went back to giving interviews. She appeared on the cover session of "Glamour" magazine, accompanied by a long and surprising interview. In it, she revealed the details of her marriage breakdown and talked about her relationship with a woman, Ashlyn Harris. Shortly after, the ladies appeared together on the red carpet for the first time. See for yourself.
Sophia Bush with a partner
When an interview with Sophia Bush, in which she talks about being queer, sweeps the net, the actress and her partner pose together for the first time on the red carpet. Bush and Ashlyn Harris were invited to the annual grand White House Correspondents' Dinner. Sophia wore a beautiful, long dress by Harbison, while her partner wore a suit with delicate details. They felt great together, even stealing a few kisses in front of the photographers' lenses.
Ashlyn Harris is a former American soccer player who once played for the USA team.
Collapse of the marriage
Sophia Bush was recently involved with Grant Hughes. They married in 2022, but as the actress has revealed, it wasn't her dream come true.
"Two months before the wedding, I was close to calling off the ceremony. However, instead of running away, I doubled my efforts to be the perfect wife. In 2023, my now ex-husband posted a beautiful tribute for our first anniversary on Instagram. When I saw it, I felt sick. [...] All day, I felt increasing pressure from strangers on the Internet, who were waiting for me to post something, so I chose some pictures of us.. [...] I clicked, the post appeared, and I went to the bathroom and vomited" - recalls in a column for "Glamour".
She was trying for a baby
In her column, Bush revealed that she had struggled for a long time to get pregnant. "I tried to survive months of endless ultrasound exams and hormone injections. My blood was drawn so many times that I still have scars on my arms. At the same time, I realised that the person I had married didn't speak the same emotional language as I did. [...] After six months of this journey into myself, I knew I had made a mistake," said the actress.
She confided that she couldn't count the number of times she lay on doctors' tables without having support from her partner. Eventually, she admitted that she could no longer lie to herself. She went to work in London, experienced difficult times related to a terrible state of health, and returned to Los Angeles, but not to her husband. In the summer of 2023, she filed for divorce. She met a group of women who supported each other through similar experiences. Among them was Ashlyn Harris, who was healing a broken heart after her marriage ended
Bush on being queer
Sophia Bush was connected with actor Chad Michael Murray before marrying Hughes. Their relationship fell apart after just a few weeks because, as rumours had it, the actor got bored of monogamy.
After splitting from her second husband, Bush was said to be going through hell. As she recalls in her column, there were threats and harsh comments about her breaking up that marriage, destroying a family, etc. "People said I suddenly left my husband because I decided to be with a woman. But my partners knew I liked women," - she points out.
"I kind of hate that I'm only coming out in 2024. (...) I've received so much support, love, and respect from the queer community, both as someone who supported them and as someone who now belongs to that community myself. I think my sexuality has always spanned the spectrum. Today, I think 'queer' is the best term for me. I can't help but smile. It sounds great. I'm so lucky to be in such a place in my life. It took me 41 years" - she wrote.
