Sony teases Xperia 1 VI launch: A new direction or more of the same?
19 April 2024 15:12
Sony has announced that the Xperia Special Event will occur on May 17. While the company has not revealed details about the event's main highlight, it appears to be the launch of the new flagship model Xperia 1 VI.
Although the unveiling of the new model is scheduled for a few weeks from now, unfortunately, this does not mean that Sony fans should be preparing their wallets yet. The company has a habit of announcing new smartphones long before their market debut and even before announcing the price.
We recall that last year's Xperia 1 V was presented on May 11, and the Polish price was revealed only on June 13, with the sales starting on July 3. The interval between presentation and sales launch isn't record-breaking, as the Xperia 1 III was presented to the world on April 14, 2021, and it didn't hit the stores until August 18.
are changes coming?
Even though there is almost a month left until the planned premiere, details about the appearance of the Xperia 1 VI have already surfaced online. According to leaks, it will be the first model in the series to abandon the 21:9 aspect ratio and 4K resolution screen in favour of more standard aspect ratios of 19.5:9 and 2K resolution.
However, Japanese manufacturers are likely not to abandon all of their traditional solutions. According to the same reports, the Xperia 1 VI will still have a screen without notches or holes, relatively wide bezels with front stereo speakers, a headphone jack, and a shutter release button on the edge of the casing.
More information about the new model will likely be revealed on May 17.
