Although a zip may seem simple in construction and use, it often gets damaged. This can be due to overuse or improper handling of clothing. One of the most common problems is fabric getting caught in the zip. This can lead to it bending or completely ripping out.
How to handle this? Of course, you can replace the entire piece, but unfortunately, this generates high costs and often isn't worth it. It's better to use home remedies that our grandmothers have found and used for years.
What to do when the zip gets stuck?
In such a situation, don't panic, because it's easily manageable. The first step is to check if the zip is "blocked" by fabric. If so, try to pry the fabric with something like tweezers and move it up and down. The annoying obstacle should release after a while, and the zip will work like before.
If your favourite jacket, sweatshirt, or trousers have been unworn for one or two seasons, and the clothing is a bit old, the zip may not "slide" as smoothly as it used to. In that case, you should help its operation by applying something like petroleum jelly or wax to the plastic (or metal) parts.

The zip came off the clothing? You can fix it in minutes
Sometimes, when dressing in a hurry, we pull the zip too hard, and it pops out of the mechanism. Some people think that in such a situation, only a seamstress or tailor can help. Nothing could be further from the truth. You can fix such a zip yourself. All you need is a fork, which can save your favourite jacket or sweatshirt. Just place the zip on its edge and slide the tape into the correct position.
How to do it? Place the zip on the middle part of the fork so that it slightly widens its structure. Then carefully try to slide the zip tape into the zip holes in such a way that both parts of the zip go into the holes. Because the zip is held securely on the fork, the task is quite simple.

In such a simple, cheap, and quick way, you might be able to save your favourite jacket, sweatshirt, trousers, dress, or bedding. Don't ignore minor damages - if you notice any problems with the zip, act early. It's better to replace this part in time than to sew in a new zip.
