Fish is rich in vitamins and nutrients, but frying it can leave a lasting smell. However, don't give up on the pleasure of eating delicious fish. There is a simple way to eliminate the persistent aroma effectively; the key to success is properly preparing the fish before frying.

Simple ways to get rid of the persistent smell of fried fish

Many of us wonder how to prepare fish to avoid the unpleasant smell. The answer is simple—freshness of the fish is key. What else should you keep in mind?

Preparing the fish:

  • Choose fresh fish: Fresh fish emits less odour. Pay attention to its appearance and smell. Fresh fish has shiny scales, firm flesh, and a mild odour.
  • Soak the fish in milk: Soaking the fish in milk for 1.5 hours before frying neutralises odours. Rinse the fish thoroughly after soaking.
  • Season the fish with herbs: Marjoram, thyme, and rosemary mask the smell of fish well. Add them to the marinade or sprinkle the fish before frying.
  • Use lemon: Sprinkling the fish with lemon before frying also helps to neutralise the smell.

Methods for reducing smell during frying:

  • Place an apple or potato in the pan. Apples and potatoes absorb odours. Place them in the pan next to the frying fish.
  • Add vinegar to the oil: During frying, adding vinegar to the oil neutralises odours.
  • Ventilate the kitchen: Open a window while frying the fish to ensure air circulation.

Get rid of fish smell from your hands:

  • Wash your hands with toothpaste: Toothpaste removes grease and neutralises odours. Wash your hands with toothpaste after finishing frying.
  • Use soap with a neutral pH: Soap with a neutral pH removes grease and odours without drying out the skin.

Get rid of fish smell from the kitchen:

  • Boil vinegar: Pour vinegar into a pot and bring it to a simmer. Vinegar absorbs odours.
  • Sprinkle baking soda: Sprinkle baking soda on the kitchen counter or sink. Baking soda absorbs odours.
  • Use essential oils: Add a few drops to a diffuser. Essential oils mask odours.
  • Wash fabrics: Clothes and towels that have absorbed the smell of fish should be washed with vinegar or fabric refresher.
  • Use an air purifier: An air purifier with a carbon filter removes odours and contaminants.

Fry fish without worrying about the persistent smell! Using these simple methods, you can enjoy the delicious taste of fried fish without any unpleasant consequences.
