Simple home hacks to keep your washing machine fresh

The cleanliness of the washing machine is key to avoiding unpleasant odours that ruin the freshness of your laundry. Regularly cleaning the detergent drawer and drum with vinegar helps prevent mould and mildew buildup. Additionally, it's worth thoroughly cleaning the rubber in the washing machine with water mixed with vinegar and a bit of washing-up liquid. Although vinegar has a strong smell, it is an effective descaler and natural antibacterial agent.

Fighting deposits and limescale

Limescale in the washing machine is a common problem caused by hard water. To prevent this, it's worth using citric acid and bicarbonate of soda. Citric acid is an excellent agent for removing deposits. Bicarbonate of soda, added to the detergent compartment, eliminates unpleasant odours and cleans hard-to-reach areas. Just add a few tablespoons to the drum and run an empty wash at a high temperature.

Maintaining the filter and seals

To ensure the longevity of the washing machine, regular cleaning of the filter and seals is essential. The filter should be cleaned about every two months or even more frequently if you have pets or wash many woollen clothes. Many contaminants are collected there, which can affect the washing machine's efficiency. Check the user manual if you don't know how to find the filter. Additionally, washing the seals with vinegar water prevents mould buildup.

Regular maintenance is key to washing machine success

Let's not forget that consistency is the key to the washing machine's longevity. After each wash, leave the washing machine door open to air the interior. This will delay the buildup of bacteria and mould. Regularly checking the washing machine's condition will help avoid repair and replacement costs. With simple home methods, a washing machine can serve us for many years, always offering clean and fresh clothes.
