Shark attack claims life of actor and surfer Tamayo Perry

On Sunday, 23rd June, actor Tamayo Perry was attacked by a shark while surfing off the coast of Hawaii. Friends found the 49-year-old with severed arms and a leg. Despite immediate assistance, the man could not be saved.

Tamayo Perry was surfing on Sunday, 23rd June, with friends near Malaekahana Beach off the coast of the island of Oahu in Hawaii when the shark attack occurred.

Friends found the 49-year-old. Despite immediate assistance, the injuries were too extensive. The man was pulled out of the ocean with severed arms and a leg.

He's well known on the North Shore. He's a professional surfer known worldwide. Tamayo's personality was infectious and as much as people loved him, he loved everyone else more - said the head of the rescue department Kurt Lager.

Tamayo Perry has been a lifeguard on Hawaii's North Shore since 2016. In his free time, he enjoyed surfing. The mayor of Honolulu called Perry's death a tragic loss.

Tamayo was a legendary waterman and highly respected – said Honolulu Mayor Rick Blangiardi.

Perry was a stuntman and actor. He appeared in the fourth instalment of "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides" (2011). He also played in the series "Lost" and "Hawaii Five-0", as well as in films including "Blue Crush", "Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle" and "The Big Bounce".

Tamayo was born and raised in the eastern part of the island of Oahu. He began surfing at the age of 12 and, over the course of several years, became a living legend of the sport. The man was married. Tamayo and Emilia were united by their love of water sports. Together, they ran the Oahu Surfing Experience business.
