The Vatican City, more than just the residence of the Pope, is a bustling sovereign entity. Describing it as 'normal' could raise eyebrows since it operates as an absolute monarchy. This mini-state, nestled within Rome and spanning roughly 44 hectares, is home to its own military, police force, currency, banking system, and media outlets — all of which necessitate a diverse workforce. Around 4,800 individuals are employed there, half serving the Apostolic See and the remainder working within various secular roles.

Notably, the Vatican does not offer unemployment benefits and strictly prohibits employee strikes. Retirement is set for the age of 65.

By illuminating some less-known aspects of working for the Vatican, potential applicants may find the unique blend of ancient tradition and modern employment appealing.
