Ingredients:

  • 2 packages of puff pastry (chilled),
  • 2 tablespoons of powdered sugar for dusting.

Cream:

  • 5 egg yolks,
  • 3 tablespoons of wheat flour,
  • 1 ounce of vanilla sugar (about 2 packages),
  • 2 cups of milk,
  • 7 ounces of butter.

Preparation:

  1. Prepare the cream. Mix the egg yolks, vanilla sugar, and flour with one cup of milk. In a saucepan, bring the second cup of milk to a boil. Slowly pour the egg yolk mixture into the boiling milk, stirring constantly. Cook for 3 minutes. Pour the finished pudding mixture into a clean dish, cover with cling film, and set aside to cool.
  2. Bake the puff pastry. Preheat the oven to 190°C. Place one sheet of puff pastry on a baking sheet and prick it with a fork. Bake for 10 minutes. After baking, remove the pastry from the oven and set aside to cool. Bake the second sheet of puff pastry in the same way.
  3. Prepare the buttercream. Whip the softened butter into a fluffy mass. Gradually add the cooled pudding, mixing constantly until you get a smooth cream.
  4. Assemble the pastry. Spread the buttercream on one sheet of puff pastry. Cover with the second pastry sheet and press down lightly—dust with powdered sugar and chill in the refrigerator for at least an hour.

You can cut the finished napoleonka into squares or rectangles and serve it with coffee or tea. Enjoy!
