The scandal has shaken North Korea. According to the Korean portal Daily NK, citing an anonymous source, the wife of a professor attacked her husband’s student.

The incident occurred in early July at the Agricultural College in Sinuiju, where one of the academics allegedly had an affair with a first-year student. Information about the suspected infidelity from unknown sources reached the professor's wife, who, according to the portal’s anonymous source, beat the girl so severely that she was "unrecognisable."

A motion has been filed for the student's expulsion. Simultaneously, the beaten girl decided not to report the case "out of fear of what might happen, given her relatively weaker position." Currently, the girl is off-campus due to severe facial injuries.

North Korea. Student beaten by professor's wife. University remains silent on the matter

Although almost a month has passed since the student was beaten, the university still has not taken an official stance on the matter. According to the portal’s informant, the authorities at the Agricultural College in Sinuiju want to use the girl as a warning to other students but are also afraid of public criticism.

The girl's friends advised her to report the beating and the forced encounters by the professor. In North Korea, abusing one’s position for physical gain is punished with forced labour.
