Previously, it was sporadic. Recently, disturbances in the satellite navigation system (GPS) over the Baltic Sea area have intensified and also affected civil aviation - reported Scandinavian media pointing to Russia.

Recently, GPS signal jamming occurs daily along the eastern NATO border - warns the Swedish "Expressen", emphasizing that disturbances affect the safety of civilian flights.

As an example, the Swedish evening paper reports that on March 15 and 16, GPS disturbances affected more than 850 flights in the Baltic Sea region, most of which were indeed passenger flights.

Russia turns off GPS signals in the Baltic region

Foreign media have previously reported that "massive GPS signal disturbances in the Baltic Sea region are probably an element of the Russian hybrid war." Swedes themselves have often pointed to sudden breaks in the system's functioning. Now, the situation has become so much more serious that - as the spokesman for the Swedish Armed Forces points out in conversation with the Scandinavian press - Russia has exceptionally mastered the ability to turn off GPS.

- Russia has trained in such skills - says for "Expressen" spokesman Mikael Agren, pointing to regular disturbances, including over southern Sweden and the northern part of Poland.

The Finns have a similar problem, who have been dealing with significant GPS disturbances in the country for a week - especially in the Gulf of Finland area.

- GPS disturbances cause various additional inconveniences for society - says for "Iltalehti" Professor Laura Ruotsalainen from the University of Helsinki.
