Russian volunteers face steep costs for lost military gear

The Russian State Duma has made a decision regarding volunteers in the ongoing conflict with Ukraine. Those heading to the front lines will now be held financially responsible for the military equipment they use. This presents a significant issue for Russians, as they must cover the costs of destroyed or lost weapons. There have already been initial "casualties" of this decision from the authorities in Moscow.

According to the "Mobilization News" channel, the Russian State Duma decided that military personnel dispatched to the front lines of the war with Ukraine would be accountable for the weapons they obtained. Consequently, volunteers must now safeguard themselves and their military equipment.

It has been established that volunteers will bear financial responsibility for equipment lost, destroyed, or abandoned on the battlefield, for instance, during a retreat.

What are the penalties for destroying or abandoning weapons on the battlefield? The State Duma has determined the precise rates, which are extraordinarily high.

An entire salary for leaving weapons. This is the decision of the Russian Duma

How much will Russians be required to pay for lost military equipment? It is equivalent to a soldier's monthly salary at the front lines, which is at least 210,000 roubles (over £1,500). Additionally, a monthly bonus for long-term military service might also be forfeited.

Responsibility for military equipment extends to contract soldiers and mobilised soldiers.

Soldiers went off to war for "easy" money. It seems likely they won't receive any of it, and further, they will be indebted to the state - comment the authors of the "Mobilization News" profile on the X portal.

The State Duma's directive does not apply to soldiers fighting in the conflict who are not Russian nationals. This means, for instance, that military personnel from North Korea will not incur expenses if they abandon weapons on the battlefield.
