Russian 'Terminator': Technological prowess or paper tiger?
Russians will long remember the actions near Kurakhove during the war in Ukraine. It was there once again that Ukrainians demonstrated the power of drones and the shortcomings of Russian technological capability. Near this small town, the Ukrainian army destroyed another BMPT "Terminator".
The war in Ukraine has been ongoing for over two and a half years. During this time, the front has seen surprising twists that have often exposed the weaknesses of both sides. The ongoing military operations have also revealed how misleading the narrative of the strength of the Russian defence industry was.
Although the Russians produce and repair vast amounts of military equipment, its quality on today's battlefield leaves much to be desired. This does not only apply to the outdated tanks from the Soviet era, as even the latest inventions of the Russian defence industry have proven ineffective on the front.
This is the case with the heavy combat vehicle BMPT Terminator, which set off to battle near Kurakhove along with 13 armoured combat vehicles. As it turned out, due to the Ukrainian 79th Assault Brigade, drones destroyed most of the vehicles, most likely including the BMPT Terminator.
Pearls of the Russian combat arsenal are losing in Ukraine
Suppose reports of the destruction of the BMPT Terminator heavy combat vehicle are confirmed. In that case, it will mean that Ukrainians managed to destroy another extremely expensive piece of equipment, which until now was considered one of the gems of the Russian defence industry.
This is a highly impressively armed and armoured vehicle that, thanks to the use of an unmanned turret, is supposed to be safer for the crew. Unfortunately, its usefulness on the battlefield has once again proven to be questionable.
Propaganda at the very beginning of the conflict regarded it as one of the most effective vehicles in the Russian arsenal. However, as it turned out, as early as 2022, there were instances where it lost battles to modern technology.
