A recording of masked soldiers, who introduce themselves as "the remnants of the 506th regiment," has been posted on Russian social media. The soldiers complain about their commanders, who allegedly lied to them.
The soldiers say that they were assured their assigned tasks would be simple and would encounter virtually no resistance from the Ukrainians. However, it was pretty different, and their unit was decimated.
"We were told that there was no one there, no 'khokhols' (a derogatory term for Ukrainians - ed.). It turned out they were all over the village. We were deceived; simply put, we were sent to the slaughter," said one of the soldiers.
"We went in; they surrounded us and completely defeated everyone. We need medical help (…). There are a lot of 'two hundred' (Russian military term for the dead - ed.) lying there; they've been there for six months," he thundered.
The soldier also accused their commanders of poor decisions that led to the unit's catastrophe.
Appeal to Putin
"There are only 50 of us left. And we don't know what to do. Now, they are sending us back against artillery. We are completely powerless. On our side, despite being promised, there is no artillery," said the soldier in the recording.
The soldier then appealed to Vladimir Putin for permission to withdraw the remnants of the regiment from frontline positions. He also stated that his commanders had already decided to dissolve the unit due to mutinies and the refusal of the remaining soldiers to follow orders.
"They will simply reset us to zero. So that no one knows anything," he added.
