Idris Abdurashidov faced off against Iranian Bagher Faraji on Saturday. From the outset, he struggled, and Faraji was leading on points. In the closing seconds of the fourth and final round, the Russian delivered a prohibited kick to the head, knocking out his opponent.
As a result, he was disqualified, yet he boasted about his actions on social media. He wrote: "So I debuted in professional boxing. And a lifetime disqualification, I fired that kick like a gun!"
The post was met with harsh criticism. Fans demanded his arrest and a lifetime ban from participating in combat sports. One commented: "He should be arrested for assault and battery and permanently banned from practising any combat sports. This is so low."
Scandalous behaviour of the boxer. Will he never fight again?
Abdurashidov may now receive a lifetime ban from boxing. He later posted a photo on Instagram showing him shaking hands with Faraji, adding: "We shook hands with each other. Everything's fine, we made up."
The Russian is a professional MMA fighter with a 4-0 record, competing in the Asian organisation ONE Championship. It is still uncertain whether his illegal kick will affect his future MMA career.
