Dmytro Lychovyi, the spokesperson for the Ukrainian military group Taurida, stated on Monday that from March 4 to March 10, the Russian military utilized at least 60 grenades laced with suffocating agents and tear gases against Ukrainian forces in the Taurida operational zone. This region spans from Avdiivka to the western part of the Zaporizhzhia region.

Lychovyi mentioned that the enemy's choice to use toxic ammunition demonstrates their failure to achieve their objectives through conventional means.

Chloropicrin used in grenades

He further indicated suspicion that Russian forces are likely incorporating chloropicrin or a similarly harmful agent in grenades.

Chloropicrin, a lung-damaging substance often employed for riot control, possesses tear gas-like properties. It's non-lethal but can severely impact health upon inhalation. The implementation of such a substance in grenades by Russian forces underscores their disregard for international laws and norms in warfare.
