Russia sets 1 October deadline to reclaim Kursk from Ukraine

Russian dictator Vladimir Putin has given his soldiers a little over a month to push the Ukrainian Armed Forces out of the occupied territories of the Kursk region. As RBC-Ukraine writes, citing a source in the military-political leadership, Putin has decided that this should happen by 1 October.

At the same time, the action to recapture areas in the Kursk region is not to come at the expense of fighting in the Donbas. This means that the Russian command cannot pull the necessary units to the Kursk region from the Donbas, where the Russians are constantly pushing forward and forcing the Ukrainians out of their defensive positions.

The Armed Forces groupings are conducting an offensive towards Kursk. During the offensive in the Kursk region, the armed forces moved deep into the territory defended by the enemy by a distance of 30 to 35 kilometres - said Ukrainian Army Chief Commander Gen. Oleksandr Syrskyi on Tuesday on television.

According to the commander, the enemy is using manoeuvre defence, trying to prevent further advance of Ukrainian units, as well as creating new military formations and transferring forces from other directions.

Further actions of our troops (in the Kursk region) will directly depend on the development of the operational situation - announced Gen. Syrskyi.

Earlier, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky called the Ukrainian troops' advance deep into the Kursk region "the biggest investment," providing an opportunity to ensure the return home of Ukrainian prisoners of war.

As reported by Reuters, Zelensky appealed to Western allies to allow the use of weapons provided by them to attack targets deep inside Russia. He explained that the lack of consent from Western countries in this regard is the reason for the Ukrainian army's problems, especially in the Donetsk region in eastern Ukraine, where Russian forces have recently made progress.
