"Today, the sky lost two of its sons, who always flew high and freely. May their souls find peace among the stars. We will remember them as heroes who faithfully served Ukraine," read a post from the 12th separate aviation brigade, shared on Facebook on Tuesday.

At that time, the Brigade did not disclose details about the pilots' deaths.

On Wednesday, the Russian Ministry of National Defence published a video showing the attack on three Ukrainian helicopters in the Donetsk region.

The Russian MOD stated that their scouts spotted "three helicopters at a helipad equipped with refuelling and rearming facilities, which were immediately targeted with cluster munitions".

In the latter part of the video, missiles striking the aircraft can be seen. Neither Ukraine nor Moscow has provided further information about the incident.

The Ukrainian agency Unian connected the announcement from the 12th army to the video released by the Russian MOD.
