"The Exorcism": what is the plot of the latest movie with Russell Crowe?
Anthony Miller (played by Russell Crowe) is an actor who struggles with mental health issues. His wretched state is aggravated by working on a horror film about supernatural phenomena. His daughter Lee (Ryan Simpkins), with whom he has not kept in touch for a long time, wonders if her father has returned to his old habits or if something worse is lurking. Eventually, she becomes certain that evil forces are at play.
"This film was born in my mind thanks to my childhood," Joshua John Miller on his latest production
Joshua John Miller, known for such films as "Near Dark" and "Halloween 3: Season of the Witch," directed "The Exorcism." Horror cinema has accompanied Miller since childhood. His father, Jason Miller, starred in the cult horror and film adaptation of William Peter Blatty's novel The Exorcist.
"If that wasn’t haunting enough on its own, my dad never shied away from telling me stories of just how ‘cursed’ the movie was: the mysterious fires that plagued the production, the strange deaths, the lifelong injuries — the list went on and on. The lore of any ‘cursed film’ has captivated me ever since" - Joshua John Miller shared with Vital Thrills.
- In "The Exorcism", we wanted to slightly update the formula of an exorcism film, where the heroic man always saves the woman from evil forces because she is too weak to fight on her own. Instead, we created a world where no group monopolises goodness and decency. We got a great cast and a creative team, thanks to which we can tell the story of how we're all vulnerable to darkness if we don't face our demons - added the director.
The American premiere of "The Exorcism" is announced for June 7, 2024. Whether the film will also be shown in British cinemas has not yet been confirmed.
