Cristiano Ronaldo, the striker for the Portugal national team, despite being 39 years old, has firmly denied recent reports about ending his international career.

During a press conference, Cristiano Ronaldo expressed a strong motivation to continue playing and emphasized his commitment to the future of the national team, especially in the context of the upcoming Nations League matches against Croatia and Scotland.

Ronaldo, the captain and leader of the team, has a rich history of success, including triumphing in the inaugural edition of the Nations League in the 2018-2019 season and winning the European Championship in 2016.

The 39-year-old player, currently playing for Al Nassr, announced that he would be the first to leave the national team if he stopped bringing value to it.

If I feel like I'm no longer contributing anything, I'll be the first to leave - the player stated, quoted by the AFP portal.

Ronaldo, the record holder for the most goals scored in the Champions League (140 goals) and recipient of special recognition from UEFA for his achievements, has shown his determination to remain in the national team if he can make a significant contribution.

Ronaldo on media criticism

Ronaldo, who scored 130 goals in 212 international matches and became the top scorer in the history of men's football at the international level, also stated that the criticism he has faced, particularly after Euro 2024, is another motivation for him.

He emphasised the value of professionalism and commitment to the team, highlighting his readiness to accept his role in the squad and his openness to leaving when the right time comes.

In conclusion, Ronaldo admitted that the end of his career would likely happen at Al Nassr, although he does not expect it to be in the next two or three years.

The Portugal national team will play two matches in September as part of the UEFA Nations League. Martinez's team will face Croatia on 5 September and Scotland on 8 September.
