Just a decade ago, the idea of replacing humans with robots was seen as science fiction. Today, in an era of rapid development in artificial intelligence and robotics, such a vision has a ring of truth. Evidence of this can be seen in the efforts of the tech giant Boston Dynamics and others.
It turns out that more and more companies are consistently developing their humanoid machines. Take, for example, Tesla Optimus or the focus of this article, a robot named Figure 02. It is already involved in the automotive production process, performing simple manual tasks.
Figure 02 in the BMW factory - what can the robot do?
Figure 02 is a creation by Figure AI that successfully and effortlessly integrates into the BMW car production process. The humanoid robot is powered by electricity; the machine's efficiency lasts five hours, during which Figure 02 can perform up to 1,000 operations.
The machine measures roughly 168 centimetres and weighs about 68 kilograms. The greatest advantage of Figure 02 is undoubtedly its dexterity. A display of its skills is contained in an intriguing recording. Importantly, the footage shows that the robot manufacturer focuses not only on quality but also on quantity—one shot shows as many as three machines moving parts to designated places.
According to "The Sun," this technology has the potential to revolutionise the manufacturing industry, bringing benefits to both companies and consumers worldwide.
Opportunity or threat?
Figure AI loudly declares that it will deliver "millions of useful robots to companies and homes worldwide." The use of such machines on a larger scale will undoubtedly require the market to adapt. The primary, widely known concern is the uncertain future of skilled workers.
Nevertheless, the introduction of humanoid robots could also present an opportunity, as each machine requires appropriate technical support and servicing.
