Retired general proposes strategy to bolster Ukraine against Russia
Mark T. Kimmitt, a retired U.S. Army brigadier general, outlines a three-point strategy in "Politico" that could help Ukraine survive the fight against Russia. "The West has been subjected to Russian propaganda and psychological warfare for years now, but we have an equally robust set of tools — and it’s time to use them fully," says the expert.

This is the 806th day of the Ukrainian-Russian war. In Russia, "Victory Day" is celebrated with significant pomp, and the situation at the front is deteriorating for Ukraine. Faced with the growing might of the Russian military and shortfalls in weapons and personnel in the Ukrainian army, there's increasing discussion about officially sending NATO troops into the conflict zone.
Meanwhile, "Politico" expert Mark T. Kimmitt highlights three crucial points necessary for Ukraine to defend itself effectively. According to the retired general, the West has yet to take adequate action to support Ukraine in its struggle against a stronger adversary.
He underscores that failure to assist - prompted by, among other factors, threats from the Kremlin - has effectively led to its empowerment. Kimmitt believes that only a strong and direct response can halt Russia.
The American general notes that the current situation in Ukraine demands a resolute response so that Kyiv can maintain its stance in the battle. He points out that the USA and its allies should follow Great Britain's lead, easing the restrictive rules on the delivery of weapons to Ukrainian forces and allowing them to target locations inside Russia. He emphasizes that this authorization is crucial to impede the enemy forces despite an additional aid package for Ukraine. Otherwise, it might determine Russia's victory.
American military officials deem the current risks of supporting Ukraine as "manageable," signaling the need to embrace slightly higher risks and tap into reserves to prevent defeat. "Winning wars is expensive, but not nearly as expensive as losing them," General Kimmitt wrote in "Politico".
Amid the war in the Gaza Strip and the impending presidential elections in the USA, the general points out that the Biden administration must consistently remind the American public of the consequences of Ukraine's downfall. Kimmitt suggests that American forces should fully utilise their resources in the information war to disseminate the truth deep within Russia.
